Kazakh Landscapes

2009 07 27 – Day 31 - Train to Aralsk

The first day on the train had been incredibly hot and, on the second day, the further we went into Kazakhstan the hotter it seemed to be. Inside the train, we could no longer tell because overnight, and much to everyone's relief, the train staff had fixed the, previously unheard of, air conditioning. The only downside to this was that any pictures taken while the train was moving were through dirty windows, but the day before had been uncomfortable enough that the trade-off was acceptable.
At station stops the ac would be turned off as the doors remained open and for those few minutes we'd be reminded of the searing heat outside our carriage.

Wild camels!
(are any of the domesticated/farmed animals really wild any more?)

This fly was too slow for my Point It Dictionary!

Cows are free to roam the railway lines in search of the best vegetation...

This part of the world really is big, flat and arid.
