Around Beijing

2009 08-09 – Beijing

Miscellaneous sights around the city:
The original time-keepers of the city: The Bell and Drum Towers.

An entrance to the large out-of-bounds military area in the centre of the city, to the west of the Forbidden City.

Zhengyangmen Gate,
and Archery Tower at the north end of Qianmen, south of Tiananmen Square.

A section of the Ming Dynasty City Walls, mostly destroyed in the 1960s, a small park contains the only remaining section.

Wangfujing Cathedral, a rare building in Beijing for its Western architecture and obvious religious function, is a small break in the fast lane of the modern religion – consumerism – that is Wangfujing.
